“No other cause has united the Curves community like the fight against cancer– and specifically, breast cancer. When I heard that Olivia was behind this amazing early detection tool,
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one. After I used
it myself, I couldn’t wait to get the
Liv Aid into the
hands of a
million women.”

Diane Heavin,
Founder of Curves

Empower yourself. Examine yourself. Use the Liv Aid every month.

Olivia Newton-John and Diane Heavin

Olivia Newton-John has partnered with Curves, the world’s largest Women’s fitness franchise, to get a Liv Aid into the hands of one million women.

The initiative’s goal is to empower and encourage women to take control of their bodies and breast health by launching a “first-of-its-kind” campaign beginning in October 2008, as part of “Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” available exclusively through Curves.

Every woman has a chance to get her own free Liv Aid at Curves. If you want more Liv Aids as gifts for loved ones or you do not want to participate in the promotion for a free Liv Aid, Curves has generously made the new Liv Aid available for sale at your local participating Curves for $9.95.

“Being a breast cancer ‘thriver,’ I know that early detection is key to good breast health,” says Olivia Newton-John, whose cancer was diagnosed in 1992 and who is now cancer-free. “My wish is that all women age 20 and above perform monthly breast self-examinations. With the wonderful support of Curves,

an organization whose mission statement is ‘strengthening women,’ I hope that this campaign will be the beginning to have the Liv Aid available to every woman and it will become a staple in every medicine cabinet in the next five years.”

Curves Supports Organizations That Support Women

  • Curves has chosen the fight against cancer as its No. 1 cause-marketing effort. “No other cause has united the Curves community like the fight against cancer– and specifically, breast cancer,” said Curves’ founder Diane Heavin.
  • Current research shows that being overweight or obese significantly increases a person’s risk for breast cancer– by as much as 60%– while genetics plays a much smaller role– only about 5 – 10%. Curves has helped millions of women lose millions of pounds and decrease their risk for breast cancer.
  • Curves is committed to helping breast cancer patients improve their quality of life, and is currently participating in the following studies:
  • “A Physical Activity Intervention to Prevent Weight Gain in Breast Cancer Patients” at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Pennsylvania
  • “Pilot Study on the Effects of Exercise and Dietary Changes in Minority Breast Cancer Patients” at Columbia University in New York
  • Each year for the past decade, Curves has encouraged and rewarded members who bring in proof of a recent mammogram during October Breast Cancer Awareness month. And each year, Curves gets several letters from women who say that the mammogram, which they otherwise wouldn’t have had, saved their lives.
  • In 2007, Curves became the first corporation ever to be a National Corporate Team Program Member of the American Cancer Societys’ two signature events– Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. In that year alone, Curves raised more than $2 million for the ACS.
  • In 2008, Curves founder Diane Heavin completed The Great Walk to Beijing 2008– a three-week, 142-mile extreme journey along the Great Wall of China which helped Curves raise $1 million for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre Appeal and funded global research for new cancer vaccines.
  • In 2008, Curves partnered with Olivia Newton-John on the Liv® Aid breast self-exam enhancer– a tool designed to help women with personal early detection of breast cancer.
  • Curves is passionate about making the Liv® Aid available to all women, beginning with a million units during October 2008 Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
